At their best, Cancerians are sensitive, kind and sympathetic with an urge to nurture and care for people which expresses itself particularly strongly through the home and family. This is the 'soft' side of the Cancer personality. Meanwhile, the 'hard' side is very enterprising, shrewd and also self-assured.

IMAGINATIVE

When attuned to the rhythms of their own nature, Cancerians are intuitive, imaginative and resourceful, knowing when to reach out to others and when to withdraw into their inner self for sustenance.

Protector

The Cancer personality is extremely protective of a vulnerable underside. There is a hard shell which is outwardly tough and impenetrable; but inwardly Cancer is highly sensitive and caring, even if this tendency is well hidden from the rest of the world.

Cancerians have great trouble deciding between the tough, ambitious and outgoing side of their nature and the sensitive, emotional, inward-looking part. This can create great conflict and swings of mood which makes it impossible for other people to assess how the somewhat contrary Cancerian will react at any time.

POSSESSIVE

Cancer also has a deep inferiority complex, so that any hurt, real or imagined is brooded upon. Cancer sometimes shows too a tendency to look back at, and hold on to things of the past and can be a very possessive sign. This highlights an inherently conservative aspect of their nature although as a Cardinal sign, they will also often initiate changes.

Gastric Troubles

Cancerians like to feel secure in their surroundings but uncertainty may give rise to depression. They tend to churn things over and are therefore vulnerable to gastric disorders. For Cancerians, the challenge is to try and let go of anxieties by learning to talk through their problems.

Beneath the tough outer shell of the crab, there is a soft under-belly; and so it is with Cancerians. However cool they appear on the surface, they are highly responsive to emotional upsets. Watery Cancer rules the stomach and alimentary canal and the Cancerians sensitive digestive system is the area most likely to register any distress. 

Those born under this sign tens to bottle things up and  resulting long-term tension may lead to stomach ulcers. While they are very supportive of those around them, they are likely to suffer in silence. They do not communicate easily, which makes it difficult for others to support them.

Home Cooking

But whatever the pressures, food is very important to Cancerians. They like good home cooking and plenty of it, but they need to take great care over what they eat and should avoid high-fat diets. Water-retention is another common disorder, so that drinking habits require control as well. Should they neglect themselves, Cancerians will soon discover that theirs is one of the more 'rounded' signs: the waistline can disappear and a moon-shaped tummy may develop as the calories mount up. Any form of water-sport is natural to Cancerians and swimming is probably the most enjoyable way for them to keep fit. Cancerians are great worries, which tends to make them over-eat.

SENSITIVELY

Cancerians crave the security of being near the one they love. Soft-hearted and also highly emotional, Cancerian feelings are never far from the surface, particularly when it comes to romance.

They are no half measures when Cancerians fall in love, they really do fall hook, line and sinker. Because of their need for permanent partnerships, cancerians are not at all interested in light-hearted flirtations. Without some love their lives, Cancerians feel unfulfilled and unhappy. 

FIDELITY

Cancerians are very faithful indeed and they expect the same loyalty in return. They lavish much love and affection on their partners but they can sometimes be so caring that they become overprotective and very possessive. Indeed, their loved ones can sometimes feel as though they are being suffocated to the extent that they have no life of their own. They often find it very hard to say goodbye at the end of a relationship, and sometimes choose to suffer the consequences of painful meetings rather than let go.

The Cancerian heart is filled with emotions but they will only expose them very gradually. Faithful and loyal, Cancerians think carefully before committing themselves to anyone, lest their emotional security is threatened and their trust broken
