The Sheep Personality

For the placid and easygoing Sheep, life is too short to buck the systems. Sheep prefer not to swim against the current, preferring to keep their heads down and let the seasons gently carry them along, while they get on with what they want to do in their quietly creative way. They are often idealistic and impractical and what Sheep desire is a peaceful life and a cozy, comfortable home, to be cushioned from strife and protected from hardship and ills, while they keep their minds on nature and art.

Years of the Sheep

Eight in the cycle, Sheep years follow on from the Snake and recur every twelfth year thereafter.

BASIC CHARACTER

Essentially, the underlying principles of this sign are all to do with the anima, the "feminine" or Yin side of our natures, the part of is that instinctively urges us to care and nurture, to garner and provide, to love and cherish. For both male and female members of this troop, their basic nature is peaceable, passive and receptive. Kind and considerate, gentle and peace-loving, Sheep abhor all forms of confrontation, aggression or violence. They are happiest among others and harbor no dreams of being dazzling or of standing our from the crowd. They have no wish to roam. No lust for power lurks in the Sheep's tranquil breast. But in their own quiet way, Sheep can be extremely successful in life and they sometimes travel further than they realize as they graze their way over the hills and valleys.

Sheep people have strong humanitarian inclinations but apart from this they also have a creative eye, which makes them tower head-and-shoulders above the rest in all aspects of the arts. With their strong artistic sensitivity Sheep are frequently drawn to the world of music and the arts. Polished, cultured and well-mannered, they are a civilizing influence to all around.

To other people, Sheep are kind and generous - almost to a fault as they can be taken advantage of. Even so, Sheep can get their own way and through such subtle tactics that the other person often has no idea it has happened.

Metal Sheep

Year: 1931 &  1991

On the face of it, Metal gives a hard edge to the Sheep character. These Sheep like to pretend they are hard nuts to crack but this is actually because they are emotionally as soft as putty and need to build a protective layer around themselves. Those who are in tune with the Metal Sheep will not be taken in by this defensive strategy and will see right through to the Metal Sheep's heart of gold. Metal Sheep would not need their outer armor were they not so deeply vulnerable. They then to treat others the way they privately feel about themselves and can be over-protective mollycoddles to those they care for. The love of art so noticeable in all the Sheep is particularly strong in Metal Sheep.

Water Sheep

Year: 1953 & 2013

Gentle and compliant, Water Sheep are always content to go along with the flow and this makes them very easy to live with. Water Sheep are popular and well-like. They seem to have an aura of "loveability" that makes people fall over themselves to protect and look after them. Like other  Sheep, they need to feel safe and protected at home, and usually like to remain in one place. Despite their friendly and have good sense of humor and they simply need a little more self-confidence. Water Sheep also like to be humored and when they are not , they can be known to sulk.

Wood Sheep

Year: 1955 & 2015

These Sheep like to get involved in a diverse range of activities with groups of friends or colleagues and they are not usually short of friends and acquaintances. Dedicated, compassionate and empathetic to a fault, they also seem to attract an assortment of strays and people down on their luck who need comfort and support. And this is always readily available, sometimes even to the truly undeserving and such is this Sheep's compassion that he or she readily responds to others. With such overflowing kindness these Sheep may sometimes be taken for a ride,, but more often their goodness is rewarded appropriately. Nevertheless, it might be a good thing if these folk occasionally put themselves first.

Fire Snake

Year: 1907 & 1967

Fire lends an interesting spark to the Sheep characteristics. More outgoing and individualistic than other Sheep, Fire Sheep are less likely to need the support and approval of others and less likely to be hurt and let down if they fail to get it. They stand up for themselves and like to make their own way in life, away from the rest of the flock. Their artistic sense leans towards the theatrical and having a strong innate sense of drama, many of the Fire Sheep gravitate toward the performing arts. They are lively and imaginative and enjoy a busy social life with a good circle of friends; but with the Sheep's love peace and non-violence they can tend to deceive themselves rather than see the unpleasant truth of a situation.

Earth Snake

Year: 1919 & 1979

Apart from a slight lack of self-confidence, the Sheep is already a stable character and the Earth element provides an even stronger grounding effect. The Earth element makes Sheep folk industrious, independent and resourceful and also a little on the conservative side. But this Sheep has tenacity - he or she is self-reliant but also self-indulgent in a domesticated way. Spouse and family are the most important aspect of the Earth Sheep's life and they will work hard for the good of those they love. While prudent and conventional, they are nevertheless, blessed with a sunny disposition which enables them to make good impression wherever they go.

The Sheep Lover

Sheep fear loneliness and tend to be shy, self-conscious and insecure. Sheep-folk are extremely family-oriented and for them , a loving, intimate relationship is absolutely essential to their happiness and well-being. Some Oriental astrologers, however, refer to this sign as a Goat and say that Goats are capricious, dissipating their energies by jumping this way and that unless they are tethered. The outcome is the same as nothing provides a better tether than a loving, stable union.

True, on a bad day, Sheep can be clingy and dependent, even wheedling and cajoling until they get their own way. But they are romantic creatures through and through and their soft-hearted, compassionate natures are hard to resist. A supportive partner's encouragement enables the Sheep to develop his or her innate sparkling personality to have self-confidence and to become a rounded person, who is witty and amusing.

The Sheep Lover Partner

Anyone born under the sign of the Sheep needs to be appreciated by a caring partner as these people are sensitive and sweet of disposition and can hide their many talents even from themselves. They flourish with the encouragement of the one they love. With a trusted partner at his or her side, the Sheep or Goat feels protected and secure and has the confidence to shine.

The Sheep at Health

Despite having a delicate appearance, the Sheep is pretty robust. Sheep may protest if they are physically uncomfortable and they take great care over their creature comforts, but their calm disposition protects them from most health problems. What does lay them low, however is any hint of marital discord, because being loved and supported by an understanding partner is critical to the Sheep's well-being. Should that much-needed love be withdrawn for any reason the Sheep immediately gets ill; unhappiness just ties the Sheep's stomach up in knots.

The Sheep at Home

Traditional is the adjective that best describes the Sheep's domestic scene. Sheep revel in the conventional role of homemaker, making jam, arranging dried flowers, making curtains, putting up shelves and taking turns to rock the cradle. The Sheep person is a strong believer in family togetherness and his or her house reflects this homely instinct with log fires, comfortable furniture and the smell of freshly bakes apple-pie. Male and Female Sheep alike are contentedly domesticated. Their love of comfort and artistic sensitivity are combined in their decor which is sumptuously elegant with a classical, timeless look created by their artistic skills. Their love of ease will ensure that their home lacks no modern convenience and time-saving gadget.

The Sheep at Work

Sheep people like being part of a group and have no interest in seeking power and position. If they have to don the mantle of authority they will and moreover, they will carry out their responsibilities with intelligence and tact. But they are not really comfortable inn the position of leader and would not normally seek a high status job out of choice. Sheep folk are much happier taking a supporting role.
